Not only is the water blue but blue notes will be in the air this weekend
for America’s “Longest consecutively Running Jazz Festival.
Always held the 3rd weekend of September (18th-20th), the Monterey
Jazz Festival (MJF) will once again play to a sold out crowd.
Single tickets are available for the first time for $55-$65 in the Main Arena.
Must hear jazz pianist are Chick Corea, Lenny White and Stanley Clarke.
Dave Brubeck is back with a celebration of the 50th anniversary of his 1959
Time Out Album. Long before the smooth jazz era of 1990s with the Kenny Gs’.
Time Out reached # 2 on the ‘Pop Album’ charts (early 1960). The most notable
single titled, “Take Five” is Mr. Brubeck’s signature piece.
One of my favorite vocalists Dee Dee Bridgewater will be at the main arena.
Don’t miss the electic George Duke. If you are with the youngster set stop by
the Mucky Duck on Alvarado St. in Downtown Monterey. For malts & beers,
check The Crown & Anchor (English Pub) is a short five minute walk away from the
Mucky Duck and 5-7 minutes from the Jazz Festival (Fairgrounds).
For those in Carmel for the weekend, Il Fornaio’s Restaurant or Flaherty’s
Seafood are sure winners to take the group before the Jazz Festival
begins. The Monterey Fairgrounds is 15-minutes away.
If you are a guest at the Spindrift Inn on Cannery Row, take the group
to The Sardine Factory. Ask the sommelier for her suggestion from
one the finest wine selections on the West Coast. Remember, California
produces almost 90% of the wines produced in America.
The 52nd Monterey Jazz Festival is located at the Monterey Fairgrounds
off of Fremont Ave in Monterey. We look forward to seeing you.
